The Daily Experience:

Sabi Sand Accommodation

A Sabi Sand afternoon to night drive is enjoyed on arrival, after which a 3-course dinner buffet is enjoyed. Overnight at Umkumbe Safari Lodge (standard room). More expensive rooms increase the price (availability dependent). The superior rooms at Umkumbe Safari Lodge have a veranda overlooking the reserve and outside shower. In fact, should Umkumbe Safari Lodge Riverside not be available, we quote guests on Umkumbe Bush Lodge (a different lodge – which is an en-suite tented camp). Umkumbe Bush Lodge is located very near to Umkumbe Safari Lodge.

Both accommodations have en-suite rooms and air conditioning. Both accommodations utilize back-up power during load shedding.

The accommodation for Kruger Park is inside the public park rest camp (large area enclosed with electric fence) within the bungalows there for the classic Kruger experience. The rest camp has a curio shop with lovely souvenirs, restaurants, bank, historical sites, museum and swimming pools to name but a few.

Furthermore, the bungalow windows have mosquito nets on the doors and windows, whereas in Sabi Sand the beds have mosquito nets over. Do not worry about locking your doors at the Sabi Sand lodge, it is safe and you are completely remotely located in an large private game reserve.

Outside of the bungalows

Bungalows / chalets in Kruger National park are round huts with thatch roofs. They are relaxing and private with indigenous trees in between. Vervet monkeys, a large variety of birds, bush buck, warthogs and squirrels frequent the rest camp. Doors and windows of the bungalows face away from each other.

There is also some distance in between units to create a sense of exclusivity and privacy.

The rooms of the bungalows have clean linnen, a daily cleaning service and bath towels. The bungalows are however a midrange/standard three star type of accommodation that is comfortable. If there are any small maintenance discrepancies, you can let the game ranger assist you, who also stays in one the rest camp facilities.

The night at the Sabi Sand lodge is availability dependent. The next morning you have an early morning game drive, breakfast and optional bush walk in Sabi Sand (weather and guide availability dependent). Transfer to Kruger Park after your Sabi Sand stay. The optional bush walk is included at Umkumbe Safari Lodge, however at additional cost at Umkumbe Bush Lodge (a different lodge). It all depends which lodge/s are available for your required travel dates.

For Safaris longer than 5 Days / 4 Nights, stay 2 nights at each destination. Due to remote locations, safaris are safe and relaxing experiences.

Water is included with all meals and alcoholic beverages are at additional cost at the lodge. *Most dietary requirements are catered for.

Meals in Kruger are at a public restaurant (order anything from the menu). ZAR 300 per person is provided for dinner and ZAR 200 per person for breakfast.

Every morning in Kruger Park, there is an early wake-up with coffee/tea and light snacks, before heading out on a Kruger safari drive. After the game drive, enjoy some brunch. A few hours are available to relax before lunch and the afternoon Kruger national park game drive and dinner. Bottled water is provided on each game drive.

Depending on the group and weather there are other guests booked during your dates in Kruger Park, the game drives on the middle days at Kruger Park only, can be a full day experience (covering vast distances). Brunch can be enjoyed on-route in this case. In most cases you will have a private safari in Kruger National Park (no other guests may be booked to share game drives with). It is however still a very sociable experience with your game ranger on tour.

Side note: We can assist with any custom quotation and combine different accommodations to create your dream safari experience. For example, a previous guest booked to stay at Hoyo Hoyo Lodge in Kruger park instead of the rest camp.
